Glittering Fusuma
Part of a suite of coordinating designs completed as part of the Kyoto on the Mississippi project.
Enclosing the tokonoma tea room, these fusuma are fabricated largely in the traditional way but incorporating luxury wallpaper imparting a shining, glittering finish. A gridwork is laminated with thin plywood sheeting to create a lightweight, but rigid panel. This is then covered with wallpaper end enclosed in a hand planed, Port Orford Cedar frame. The doors are finished with antique hand pulls.
